Sutton well beaten at home
Andrew Delaney
Sutton fell to their first home defeat of the season as they were unable to handle a purposeful OJM Black Country at Coleshill Road.
United went behind in the 13th minute when Casey Collins slotted home from close range and just two minutes later the visitors had doubled their lead when Taylor Homer reacted first to find the net after Kaine Donald’s defensive header in front of goal.
Sutton were rocked and Collins should have had a second shortly after, but was denied with a fantastic point blank save by Reiss Wagstaff. However, it wasn’t long before the visitors pressed their advantage with a third goal, when Jaber Ahmed found the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the box.
Sutton’s only sight of goal in the first half had come from long range shots that were comfortable for the OJM keeper, Maximus Court. However, a moment of class early in the second half saw them pull a goal back, when Sef Semlali played the ball over for Leyton Hines to pick up on the left and cut inside to unleash a superb shot that beat Court at his near post.
Despite the goal, opportunities for Sutton remained scarce, with their best chance coming from a Brad Gregory header that Court stretched to push clear.
In contrast, OJM continued to cause problems for Sutton and they made sure of the win in the 72nd minute when substitute Joshua Mussell tucked away Adam Callinswood cross within two minutes of coming onto the pitch.
The only disappointment for OJM would be the dismissal of Bradley Lawley in the 90th minute for his second yellow card.
After five games in fifteen days, Sutton now a get an eight-day break to regroup and come back stronger for their next match at home to Allscott Heath on Bank Holiday Monday 28th August 3pm kick off.
