Paul Burke took on leadership of our recently formed Under 21s side with the assistance of Ryan Lugg & Mark Moore for the 23/24 season. We were proud as a club that the side was put together largely with players from our u18s team, presenting our club players with an opportunity to bridge the gap from youth to adult football. In their first season of existence, the 21s finished a respectable 7th in what was a long and difficult MFL division but exactly the introduction to under 21s football that club wanted.
With the foundations laid to build on, Paul Burke began the 21s’ second season in the MFL division North, this time with the added help of Steve Billington & Oscar Lugg. In preseason, the squad was strengthened with more players from our youth setup as well as a few players from other clubs within the local area. Paul and his team now recognise the opportunity for success in the 24/25 season given the strength of core players in the squad.
The u21s has been a huge success, in early times, in creating a clearer pathway through the club from u7s, all the way to first team football. We boast a squad of more than 10 players directly from our youth teams. Alongside this, we’ve had multiple players making the step up with useful first team experience, as well as a strong support to the first team alongside the reserves. The high level, intense games will set our players perfectly to boost the quality of the first team in years to come!
