Sutton United’s First Team currently competes in the Midland Football League Premier Division.

Building on the foundations laid by former manager and club hero Jamie Hunter, Sutton United enjoyed a hugely successful period beginning in 2020, achieving impressive back-to-back promotions while playing an exciting and progressive brand of football. Jamie will always be remembered not only as an outstanding football manager, but more importantly as a fantastic person who left a lasting legacy at the club.

Following this period, the First Team continued to move forward under the joint management of Liam Burke and Richard Heath. With the addition of new players over the subsequent seasons, the club maintained its upward trajectory, securing further success including winning the Fazeley Cup in 2022. The 2022/23 season saw Sutton United narrowly miss out on the play-offs, finishing in a highly respectable mid-table position. In 2024, the club reached another historic milestone by qualifying for the FA Vase for the first time in its history, underlining the continued progress and ambition of the football club and its commitment to excellence both on and off the pitch.

Richard Heath, who previously enjoyed a successful spell at Boldmere St Michaels, joined Sutton United alongside Liam Burke and quickly embedded the club’s core values and beliefs within the First Team environment. Under their leadership, Sutton United became a model of consistency, stability, and competitiveness.

In January 2026, Liam Burke and Richard Heath stepped down from their managerial roles. Paul Burke and Harry Tuffield took the reins on an interim basis for a two-week period, providing stability and leadership during the transition.

Following this interim spell, Neil Tooth was appointed as First Team Manager, supported by Assistant Manager Phil Male and Carlos De Azavedo as part of the first-team coaching staff.

After achieving promotion through the play-offs, as well as winning the MFL Cup at The Bescot Stadium, Neil and his army look to continue to progress and hope to flourish in the 2026/27 season. Phil Male remains as his right-hand man, joined by Sam Heath who has joined from Coleshill Town FC.
