OJM Black Country stunned Sutton United at the Triplex Sports Ground with four first half goals to reach the next round of the Floodlit Cup.
It was a comfortable night for the home side as Steven Leslie scored two free kicks either side of goals from Ibraheem Sulliman and Logan Trainer, in a dominant first half from OJM.
Sutton never recovered from going behind in the second minute of the match, when Leslie netted his first free kick into the bottom corner of the net.
OJM pressed their advantage, and it wasn’t long before they doubled their lead, when a misunderstanding at the back between Reiss Wagstaff and Will Jones, gifted Sulliman with an open goal.
Sutton were finding it difficult in front of goal and their best effort of the half fell to Kye Billingham-Belle with a shot from the edge of the box which spun narrowly wide of the far post.
In contrast, OJM looked a threat each time they went forward and when a through ball played in their winger on the right, his cross picked out Trainer in the box, who found the bottom corner of the net with a clinical strike.
The home side were full of confidence now and scored another goal before the break when Leslie curled his free kick over the Sutton wall for his second of the match.
OJM held their lead in the second half as Sutton saw chances fall to Mark Moore and Matt Bishop from set pieces, with Bishop’s shot in the 56th minute forcing a strong save from Luis Foster.
United battled on but there was nothing more to trouble Foster and the match finished with OJM deservedly heading through to the next round of the cup.
Sutton return to league action next Saturday with a trip to league leaders Hinckley AFC.
