Brace for Jeeves and Froggatt
Oli Jeeves and Hayden Froggatt scored two goals each to give Sutton United victory over Chelmsley Town at Pack Meadow.
Oli Jeeves opened his account for the club with a fantastic first-half volley, before netting a second just three minutes later. The striker then picked up a groin injury and his replacement, Froggatt, went on to score another two goals in the second half, to ensure all three points went to United.
It was the perfect way for Sutton to bounce back after their heavy defeat midweek, whilst Chelmsley continue to struggle in the league and remain in the relegation zone.
Sutton had Zach Binns and Leyton Hines back in the squad, with Oli Jeeves making his first start.
The match began brightly, and the hosts had a good early chance when Kaine Williams looped a header from ten yards that Sutton keeper, Greg Lewis, gathered.
Sutton then had the better of the chances, with Joe Gildea seeing a shot deflected behind by a defender’s outstretched leg, and Matt Bishop heading into the side netting from a corner kick.
The breakthrough came for Sutton in the 28th minute, when George Ray’s clearance was well controlled by Gildea on the left, before he looped the ball over for Oli Jeeves to volley a terrific strike into the bottom corner of the net.
It wasn’t long before United doubled their lead, when Harry Howard won the ball on the edge of the Chelmsley penalty box and unselfishly set up Oli Jeeves, in space on his right, who calmly netted his second of the match.
There were fewer chances created in the second half, but Sutton made the most of their opportunities to add another two goals.
Their third goal came midway through the second half, courtesy of a classic Bishop delivery out from the back for Abdul Touaiti to chase through the middle. Chelmsley keeper, Spike Whitehouse, rushed out to the edge of his penalty area to chest the ball down ahead of Touaiti, but Froggatt was on hand with a brilliant reaction to volley into an open net.
Sutton’s fourth was a team goal, working the ball onto the right for Jonny Grigg to square across the face of goal where Froggatt flicked in his seventh of the season.
United gave a strong team performance and were clinical up front and will be looking to continue this form when they return home for their next match on Saturday 12th October, when they host Lutterworth Athletic for their first meeting this season.
