03.10.2026 Vs Wythenshawe Town

Sutton United made it six wins in a row with a confident 3-1 victory over Wythenshawe Town, as the two sides met for the first time in the Midland Football League Premier Division.
A first-half blitz of set-piece goals, including two stunning headers from Matt Bishop and a super strike from Ben George, put United firmly in control at Coleshill Road.
Sutton made two changes from last weekend’s win, with Ryan Nesbitt returning to the starting line-up and Under-21 midfielder, Ethan Reynolds earning another start.
United made the perfect start inside two minutes, when Nesbitt delivered a wicked corner to the back post, where Bishop powered a header down and into the back of the net to give the Greens an early lead.
Wythenshawe responded well and levelled on 13 minutes, when Kris Smith burst through the centre, using his pace to drive into the box before finishing low under Greg Lewis.
The visitors continued to threaten with their direct, pace-driven attacking, forcing Sutton into several important defensive interventions, as both Aidan Mee and Bishop produced crucial blocks to deny Smith and Samuel Muyengwa from inside the penalty box.
Sutton finished the half strongly and regained control with two more set-pieces moments before the interval. In the 41st minute, Nesbitt repeated the formula for the opener, drilling in another corner that Bishop powered in at the back post for his second of the afternoon.
United continued to press, with Reynolds and Nesbitt both going close from long range, before another corner caused problems for the visitors deep into added time at the end of the half. The ball was headed around before falling to George, who unleased a stunning strike into the top corner, for his first goal of the season that sent Sutton into the break with a two-goal advantage.
The second half was a controlled and disciplined display from Sutton, as they tightened their press, limited Wythenshawe’s attacking pace, and managed the game with precision.
The Greens could have extended their lead on 66 minutes, when Bishop hooked a cross from the byline and Joe Gildea stretched to meet it, but his close-range effort lifted over the bar.
New loan signing Lincoln Hunt, joining from Walsall this week, made his debut from the bench and almost marked it with a goal. Aidan Mee’s cross found him at the back post, but his header bounced down and over the bar.
Sutton saw out the remainder with composure, securing another impressive victory and maintaining their excellent form, which should provide momentum for their next fixture, as they make the trip to AFC Wolverhampton City on Tuesday 6th October, kick off 7.45pm.
