19.09.2026 Vs Brocton

The Greens flew out of the blocks creating three big chances inside the opening five minutes: Jayden Hunter rattled the post with a blistering shot from the left of goal; Tom Massey hooked an effort wide after good work from Aidan Mee on the right; and Luke Childs fired narrowly past the post as Sutton set the early tempo.

United thought they had taken the lead on fifteen minutes when Ben George picked out Hunter on the edge of the box, who finished superbly into the bottom corner. However, after a long discussion, the officials ruled that Massey had made a touch in an offside position, leaving the home crowd stunned.

Moments later, Childs was denied from close range by visiting goalkeeper Kyle Langston, after another positive move from the Greens.

At the other end, it wasn’t until the 22nd minute that the visitors saw their first chance of goal, when Jude King was played though on the right, but Greg Lewis was quickly off his line for Sutton, to push him wide and make the block.

As the Greens continued to push forward, it was Brocton who struck against the run of play. A misjudged back pass allowed Regan Smith to nip in and slot home on 27 minutes to give the visitors a shock lead.

The goal was enough to spur Brocton on, and they grew into the game, forcing Greg Lewis into two excellent saves to deny both Morgan Payne and Dylan Millington from distance.

United responded well and levelled just after the half hour. Lewis released Sean Devlin down the right, who set up Hunter in the box and when the striker’s first effort was saved, he made no mistake with the rebound to bury his seventh goal of the season.

Both sides threatened early in the second half, with Jake Thomas heading inches wide for Brocton off a corner kick, and that was quickly followed by Childs clipping the crossbar with an audacious 20 yard lob that almost put the Green’s ahead.

Sutton’s efforts were rewarded on 60 minutes, as Devlin delivered a dangerous cross from the right, and as Hunter’s strike at the back post was blocked first by Kenny Devoir, and then an attempted clearance from Langston, Aidan Mee rushed in to bundle the ball over the line and put United ahead.

Brocton pushed hard for an equaliser in the final stages of the match, but Sutton defended superbly. Lewis produced a strong save to deny substitute Lucas Green Birch’s header, and in added time he gathered Smith’s low strike to secure the points for the Greens.

With a committed and disciplined performance against strong opposition, the win sees Sutton leapfrog Brocton up to seventh in the table.
Next up is Uttoxeter away on Tuesday 22 September, 7.45pm kick off, as the Greens look to extend their winning run.
